Intro to the NICU

Megan got her first chance to hold the girls this afternoon.  Last night they wheeled her to the NICU after recovery from surgery, but she was dizzy and nauseous.  Not in the best shape to meet her girls!  Emma had her CPAP on to help regulate her breathing.  Mia was so small, but breathing fine on her own and seemed pretty alert.  

The NICU nurses are great, but the atmosphere there is a bit heavy.  It seems there are constantly alarms going off so it is very nerve-wracking.  Since we don't want to over stimulate the girls, we can't rock them much or really do much more than"contain" them by holding their heads and feet.

Friends and Family,

We are thrilled to report that after 8 weeks of hospitalized bed rest, Megan gave birth to two beautiful, strong and healthy girls this afternoon!  

Emma Karolina Lund was born at 4:19pm, weighing 4 lbs., 11 oz and is 17 in. long.  

Mia Karena Lund was born at 4:20pm weighing 4 lbs., 5.7 oz. and also measuring 17 in. long.  

As most of you are aware, due to an elevated risk associated with this sort of twin ("mono-mono" twins) the girls were delivered early (in the 34th week).  Since the girls are a bit premature, they will remain in the hospital for some individualized care for two to three weeks. (I just checked on them in the Neonatal ICU and they look great!)  Megan is resting comfortably, recovering from her surgery.
